EA-4.01 · Risk, Safety & Emergency Plan

Support choice. Reduce avoidable harm. Plan for emergencies.
Risk should be balanced, not eliminated. The plan should consider both possible harm and the benefits of choice, independence and positive risk-taking.
Use the least restrictive option. A safety measure should not limit the person more than is needed. Where a legal restriction is involved, also use EA-1.01.

Which emergencies need a plan?

Fire evacuation needs that are personal to the individual should also be reflected in EA-4.06 PEEP where required.

10. Restrictive Safety Measure

Do not use restriction simply because it is easier or safer for the service. The measure should be necessary, proportionate and as limited as possible.
Where legal authority, consent or capacity is relevant, also update EA-1.01.
